Description

Manderley Villa, Cap Estate, Gros Islet, St Lucia

Manderley is located at the northernmost part of St Lucia in Cap Estate, a prime residential area. The name was derived from the book “Rebecca” by Dapne Du Maurier whereby Manderley was a fictional estate. It is familiarly called “The Gingerbread House” with its beautiful white fretwork adorning the whole exterior roofing of the house to contrast with the light pink wooden walls. The white fretwork depicts the cultural fusion of St Lucia and England; locally made of wood and plastic amalgam of the fleur de lis, our local flower the La Marguerite and the Rose flower of England.

Location is ideal only a few minutes from Rodney Bay and Rodney Bay Marina. Restaurants and eateries are abound. Mathews , located in Rodney Bay is a wonderful casual restaurant, Big Chef is one of the best steak houses I have frequented. Chinese excellence at Memories of Hong Kong and Indian at Razzmatazz. Some of the best Sushi in the region is available at Rituals. Coffee and more at Cafe Ole and there are more.

George FL Charles airport is about half an hour away and Vieux Fort and the main airport , Hewanorra is a couple of hours away.

Manderley faces north west and offers fabulous views of Pigeon Point, Rodney Bay, the Cap Estate golf course, the famous Pitons in the distance and the Caribbean sea.

The Great Room houses both the living and dining room. It is very cozy with planters chairs and colonial architecture. It has double louvre doors with jalousie shutters that provide access to the balcony. The high ceiling with a single solid piece of Guyanese timber supports the roof which is adorned by a crystal chandelier. The parquet flooring is an attractive feature and so are the stained glass windows. A grand mahogany dining table which seats 18 persons lends to the ambience.

An unusual feature of the house is the tower which adjoins the house by the terrace. The tower suite boasts a Georgian bedroom which offers views of the Atlantic ocean from one window and the Caribbean sea from another window. In addition to the master tower suite, Manderley has two further en-suite double bedrooms with poster beds. These rooms overlook the pool and have separate dressing rooms. There is also a fourth bedroom with twin single bed and en-suite shower.

Outside, the pool is at the center of the house surrounded by lush tropical plants. The pool and deck are very private yet offering stunning views out to the Caribbean Sea.

There are so many amazing things about this property; from the same architect who designed Mick Jagger’s house in Mustique to being featured in many of Conde Nast publications such as Vogue and GQ. The property has hosted many parties with up to 150 guests in the stunning “Great Room.” This property is a treasure of stories and offers so many unique qualities.

A stunner!!
